IFC Films has acquired North American rights to Philip Dorling and Ron Nyswaner’s Sundance pic “Predisposed,” which stars Jesse Eisenberg, Melissa Leo and Tracy Morgan.
Eisenberg stars as a piano prodigy who must deal with his troubled mother (Leo) and a hapless drug dealer (Morgan) on the day he has an audition for a prestigious music program. Events spiral comically out of control as this gang of misfits are forced to deal with their inner demons over the course of the day.

Nyswaner, who wrote the script with Dorling, produced with Neda Armian and Paul Prokop, as well as Brice Dal Farra, Claude Dal Farra and Lauren Munsch of BCDF Pictures.

Deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco of Sundance Selects/IFC Films with ICM and UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers.

“Phil Dorling and Ron Nyswaner have made a film as funny as it is moving with ‘Predisposed’ featuring terrific performances,” said Jonathan Sehring, prexy of Sundance Selects/IFC Films.

“We could not be more pleased to be working with IFC on the release of ‘Predisposed,’ BCDF Pictures and Armian Pictures said in a joint statement. “We love IFC’s classy taste and their passion for the film is unparalleled.”

“We are delighted to have IFC releasing our film. IFC is synonymous with independent filmmaking, and we are confident in their ability to distribute the picture,” added Dorling and Nyswaner.

As Variety first reported, IFC Films acquired Josh Radnor’s “Liberal Arts” and Antonio Campos’ “Simon Killer” at Sundance, as well as “Room 237,” Rodney Ascher’s documentary about Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining.”

When I was twelve years old, I decided it would be cool to wear all green to school—green sweatpants, green shirt, green socks, even green shoes! Sadly, the other kids in my class didn’t think it was such a great idea. I was taunted on the playground and called names like Green Bean, Kermit the Frog and Snot Body.

Bullies chased me through the gym hurling rocks and insults when a young Taiwanese-American boy stepped in between me and my attackers. It was little Jeremy Lin, who was four years younger but in my class because he skipped several years of elementary school. He chased the bullies away and shouted after them, “Pick on someone your own size!” Then, just to cheer me, Jeremy scooped up the rocks and slam dunked them into the basketball hoop. No one ever picked on me again.

It may sound extraordinary. But that was just Jeremy.

A few years later, I was in a high school production of Guys and Dolls when Todd Roystein, the kid playing Nicely Nicely Johnson, came down with mono. It was twenty minutes before curtain and we thought we’d have to cancel the show.

We were all shocked when young Jeremy Lin, who at that point had only built our sets and run lights and sound said, “The show must go on.” Jeremy hemmed Todd’s pants, memorized the lines and jumped right into “Runyonland.” We all thought Todd had really nailed the role in rehearsal, but Jeremy was able to find a sadness that Todd never unearthed; Jeremy’s Nicely was a brute, yes, but he was also a struggling addict and Jeremy found a way into both.

The critics said it was unbelievable. I just said it was just Jeremy.

And when my second cousin Dina was diagnosed with a rare kidney disorder, Jeremy didn’t hesitate to go under the knife, even if it meant possibly losing his coveted spot on the Golden State Warriors basketball team. “Jeremy,” I implored, “You’ve been working toward this your whole life. The Golden State Warriors is your favorite NBA team! You can’t stop playing now!” And Dina said, “I’ve never even met Jeremy! Why would he do this?”

But in typical Jeremy fashion, he said something like, “Basketball can wait. Kidneys? Those are a whole ‘nother story.” And we all laughed, except Dina whose kidney was failing.

And in the recovery room, when we discovered that Jeremy wasn’t a good match after all and he would have to live without a major organ, I said, “Hate to say I toldja so, Jer.” And we all laughed, except Dina who still had to find another kidney.

The doctors said he was unimaginably selfless. I said, “It’s just plain old Jeremy.”

Finally, Jeremy Lin has given me hope as a young Jewish athlete from the suburbs of New Jersey. Although he has recently come out as Taiwanese American by nationality, Christian by religion and a native of Northern California, it is clear he is Jewish by spirituality and, according to my uncle who works near Madison Square Garden, studying at a Rabbinical school in Paramus.

Growing up, everyone told me, “Jewish boys can’t play in the NBA, just look at Danny Schayes.” All we’ve had to look up to was Sandy Koufax, who was Jewish but played baseball, and Spud Webb, who was our height but never won a title. But now, in Jeremy Lin, we have a true Jewish hero like Jesus or Erich “Houdini” Weiss.

Some say it’s Linsanity.

Some say it’s Lincredible.

I say, it’s just Jeremy.

LONDON — Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska are to star in multihyphenate Richard Ayoade’s comedy movie The Double.

Set to shoot in the U.K. in spring/summer this year, The Double is inspired by Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novella of the same name.

The novella details the story of an insignificant man driven to near breakdown by the appearance of his doppelganger.

Funny, frightening and dream-like, Ayoade promises his film will reflect on loneliness and our need to love and be loved.

Based on an original idea by Avi Korine, The Double is co-written by Ayoade and Korine, and produced by Amina Dasmal and Robin Fox of Alcove Entertainment.

Andy Stebbing will co-produce. The project was co-developed with and will be co-financed by Film4, the filmmaking arm of U.K. broadcaster Channel 4.

It marks Ayoade’s sophmore directorial project after making his debut feature Submarine, an adaptation of Joe Dunthorne’s coming-of-age tale.

Ayoade is widely known in the U.K. for comedic turns in TV shows including The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd, and will be seen next in ensemble sci-fi comedy Neighbourhood Watch alongside Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.

Tessa Ross, head of Film & Drama at Channel 4, said of Ayoade’s second feature: “With Jesse [Eisenberg] and Mia [Wasikowska] now on board, it promises to be a wonderful journey.”

British banner Protagonist Pictures is handling sales for the project which makes its market debut during this month’s European Film Market in Berlin.

Director Dylan Kidd Eyes Miles Teller, Anna Kendrick, Bryan Cranston, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jay Pharaoh, and Jesse Eisenberg for GET A JOB

Director Dylan Kidd (Roger Dodger) is attached to direct Get a Job for CBS Films, and he’s setting up a very nice cast. Miles Teller is in negotiations to star. Offers are out to Anna Kendrick and Bryan Cranston. Christopher Mintz-Plasse and SNL‘s Jay Pharaoh are also in talks; Kidd’s Rodger Dodger star Jesse Eisenberg is looking to take on a cameo in the comedy. According to Variety, the script by Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel follows “a college graduate and his friends who have to lower their expectations about life as they enter the real world during a recession.” Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher (Extraordinary Measure) are producing.

After a critically acclaimed turn in Rabbit Hole and a scene-stealing supporting role in Footloose, Teller is poised for… well, an Eisenberg-level breakout. He has two films coming up in 2012—Project X and 21 and Over—that could connect with young audiences. Plus, acting opposite Kendrick and Cranston always looks good on a resume. I also hope this is the first of many times we see Pharaoh pop up outside of Saturday Night Live, since the sketch show doesn’t seem to know what to do with him.
