Holy Rollers, director Kevin Asch’s story of a man’s switch from pious son to international drug dealer, has switched its UK release date from May 13 to July 15, Crabtree Films has announced.
Inspired by real events in the 90s when Hasidic Jews were recruited as mules to smuggle ectasy from Europe to the USA, it stars The Social Network’s Jesse Eisenberg as Sam Gold, who is awaiting an arranged marriage and studying to become a rabbi when he is asked by neighbour Yosef Zimmerman (Justin Bartha) to transport ‘medicine’.
As he is drawn deeper into the criminal underworld, Sam’s double life begins to rip his family apart and the community becomes suspicious of his illegal activities.
